FaceStation is a suite of software applications that allow you to animate
heads and faces in 3ds max by simply speaking and acting into a video
camera. Eyematic's facial tracking software automatically identifies a
human face in a video eee, and then places 22 virtual markers at key
positions on the face. The movement of these markers is then "tracked"
from each video frame to the next to generate facial animation data. This
data is used to animate a model in 3ds max.
You can choose between:
Using FaceLifter to track prerecorded video files. You can record video
files directly into FaceLifter or load video files that you have created
elsewhere.
Using FaceTracker to track a live video performance directly into 3ds max
for true facial "puppeteering." Either way, the facial animation data
generated in the tracking process is used to drive facial animation in
3ds max. This animation data is funneled into 3ds max using the FaceDriver
plug-in, which replaces your existing 3ds max Motion Capture Utility with
a more powerful tool.
Although it is possible to use the facial animation data to deform
localized areas of a mesh (using bones or vertex clusters), FaceStation
is primarily designed to animate facial expressions using a simple set
of predefined morph targets. These morph targets are very easy to create
from copies of your neutral head model. However, FaceStation includes
Avatar Editor, an easy-to-use program that allows you to create fully
textured head models (with all necessary morph targets) using only a
simple front and side eee of a head.

Obviously the next thing to do is install the package! :)
Once you have installed and re-booted your machine, you are ready to apply
one of the supplied patches.Run the included "hv-FaceStn15.exe" patch.
This will remove the Pace envelope and patch the pace api from 3 files .
Please make sure you only have ONE instance of " FaceLifter.exe,
FaceTracker.exe and Fd_mcutl.dlc" on your hard drive, or the patch will
fail!!You dont need to have all three installed, but there must only be one
instance of those that are.
Now there is an issue with the last program in the suite. The Avatar
editor!!!
I could not patch this file at all!! It makes exclusive calls to the Pace
Api that I can't get rid of without the program crashing.So we will have
to use a workaround for this one. This is where the second patch "hv-
PaceReset.exe" comes in.
When you run the Avatar Editor you will get the pace 15 day trial reminder.
Just click try to continue. No functions are crippled in any way so just
use it as normal.When your 15 day trial has expired...just run that other
patch "hv-PaceReset.exe" to restore your 15 day trial period.
Needless to say if you use any of these programs for anything other than
learning or fun. You should buy them!!
